Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School is located in the heart of downtown Bethesda. With over 1,700 students, it is one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Montgomery County. For school year 2007-2008, enrollment is 61 percent white, 17 percent black, 15 percent Hispanic, 7 percent Asian, and less than 1 percent American Indian. Almost a quarter (23%) of its students came from countries other than the U.S. Income levels and socio-economic backgrounds are equally diverse. Eleven percent of its students qualified for "free and reduced" meals. Its English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program has 80 students representing 69 countries and 28 languages.

B-CC High School provides education for the college-bound, those headed for the workplace, students for whom English is a second language and students with disabilities. It offers extracurricular and co-curricular clubs and activities for a myriad of interests. If public education is to survive, schools like B-CC that mirror the nation's diversity must continue to flourish.


B-CC Enrollment Jumps More than 60% in 10 Years

Since the Foundation's start in 1996, B-CC's enrollment has increased dramatically, an indication of the community's greater confidence in the school. The total student population was 1,724 as of mid-October 2007, a 62% increase in ten years.
